PREP INFORMATION
BUDDIES
All Foundation children will be given a Grade 6 buddy who they will meet upon commencement of school. Buddies usually meet every fortnight for an activity and provide your Foundation student with a special friend who will look out for them.
FRUIT AND STORY
Children are asked to bring a piece of fresh fruit or vegetable to school each day for ‘fruit and story’ time. Drink bottles are also encouraged in the classroom, but need to be filled with water.
SPARE CLOTHES
We are asking all Prep students to have spare clothes including shorts/pants, t shirt, socks and underwear in their school bags in case of emergency.
WEDNESDAYS DURING FEBRUARY
Prep students in Victoria are not required at school on the following Wednesdays - 3rd February, 10th February, 17th February, 24th of February and 3rd March.
On one of these rest days, your child will be required to come in for a 45-60 minute appointment to complete some initial assessment. We do ask that parents don’t attend these appointments to allow us to get to know your child independently. Parents are however, more than welcome to wait in our front office during this time. I will be in contact to make these appointments early next year.
GETTING TO KNOW YOU INTERVIEWS
Parent teacher interviews will take place early in the year. This provides opportunities for me to meet you personally. More details will be provided about this closer to the time.
PARENT HELPERS
We would be very grateful to have parent helpers to listen to reading. I would expect that parent helpers would commence in Term 2, when students have adjusted to some routine. You will be required to have a Working with Children Check and will be required to sign a Volunteer Agreement. Please see Sharyn at the office for this information.
HOMEWORK
In Foundation, the homework expectation is that students will complete 10-15 minutes of reading each night. They will carry a blue reader bag to and from school each day, and will be required to record their reading in a yellow reader diary. These must be returned to school each day for checking. When children are ready, words to practice reading each night will also be sent home. All of the above will be provided next year.
Sometimes, we will also send home class created books showcasing our work. Please enjoy reading these with your child and leave a comment about what you liked about our work.
